The Directory to Your Cell Phone via Camera!
Have you seen those square bar codes throughout the directory?
These are examples of one of the tools aiming to converge “realspace” and “mobilespace” called QR codes (think of them as a form of physical hyperlink.)
It works like this:
- Flicking through the directory you notice a bar code placed neatly within an advert design.
- You take a photograph of the bar code with your cell phone.
- Software on your phone converts the snapshot of the code into a mobile address.
- You are automatically offered the option to launch this address in the phone browser.
- Doing so launches your mobile browser and you are taken directly to the linked content — jumping you from printed content to online content.
QR Codes can be designed to:
- Automatically input information into a phone (such as the data from a business card) without having to key it in. That means no more typing!
- Link users to a website via their cell phone browser.
- Send an SMS or text message to the cell phone containing promotions, opening hours or travel directions.
How to set yourself up to use QR Codes:
- Navigate to www.kaywa.com on your cell phone browser Download the Kaywa Reader to your handset
- Or Text xxx-xxxxx. We will send you a simple to follow text message with directions on how to donwload your QR reader.
Once you have it, simply access the application and take a photo of the QR codes throughout the 2008/09 Bermuda Telephone Directory®
